Weekender… Top 5 Football Jobs
It's fair to say that on Mousebreaker, we like our football. This is a statement in the same league as The Pope likes the Catholic church – something fairly obvious from even a cursory glance at our content.
Over the years we've created and published all kinds of football games, allowing players to be everything from the players to the ball itself. Next week – as newsletter subscribers will already have read – we're offering our super-unqualified users (no offence to any practicing doctors out there on Mousebreaker – a dentist I met last month was a fan!) the chance to be the football physio.
So here for the bank holiday weekend is the full range of our Football Job Sims. Anything we've missed?
Play For Your Club
Let's start with the actual playing then. We've got games that let you simulate a whole career, games just for headers, overhead kicks and volleys… but in terms of allying yourself to a team, nothing beats Play For Your Club. Pick your club, and start volleying. Each highscore you submit gets added to your club's total, along with the other fans, and each week we see real world fixtures decided by the fans, a computer and killer mouse reflexes!
Flash Soccer Manager 2010
Once a player retires from the game, there are two particularly well trodden paths: punditry and management. As we haven't made an Alan Hanson simulator (yet), we'll have to make do with management. Pick your club, pick the players, formation and tactics and then take to the field. Will you be challenging for Europe or fighting relgation? We'll find out when Saturday comes…
Football Tycoon
I do love a bit of Football Tycoon – and not just because I wrote most of the texts for it! We wanted to create a game which showed a larger-than-life view of real chairman behaviour, and allow players to win big by destroying clubs as well as by making them into world beaters. Try and manage your finances and debts to turn a club profitable in this cynical look at the life of chairmen and directors…
Football Agent
If you fancy something a little more ethical (in the same way, perhaps, that a murderer is a better character than a serial killer), then how about trying Football Agent, to play at being one of the fine, upstanding fellows who negotiate moves for players? It's a simple game where you buy players on the cheap, and sell them high. Can you make enough to retire to the giant £40,000,000 mansion?
Wise-a-Gotchi
Nobody wants to be a director of football. Absolutely nobody. But just in case that's a life-long ambition you've held, this is the closest we've got, based on Wisey's short lived term at Newcastle United. It holds the title of being the strangest game on the whole site, where you have to balance the wee fella's energy, stress levels and cross-eyedness to last as long in the job as possible. My best is 2 weeks, what's yours?
And that's it for another week – have a fun filled Bank Holiday Weekend, y'all…
